This charming vintage Chinese gilt silver butterfly pin has four hand-carved natural jade (or jadeite) wings, genuine pearl antenna tips, and a brilliant cobalt and turquoise enameled body. The butterfly measures 2" high, 1 5/8" wide.
Each jade wing is carved with a decorative motif: three have incised fruits and the lower right wing has a miniature butterfly! Additionally, each also has an incised circle with pierced holes.

The jade panels have natural variations in color that range from light lettuce green to a bright mint green to a deep forest. All the panels are held by prongs.
The body of this gorgeous creature is enameled in bright lapis blue and turquoise with white highlighting the curves. The eyes are golden yellow. The antenna tips are pearl beads on gilt wires and the eyes are gilt.
The back of the body is marked "Silver" and the pin is secured with a safety clasp. This beguiling butterfly is in wonderful condition and the variations of color and shape in the wings add to the realism and allure.
