This vintage Egyptian bird pin is enameled in the champleve’ style and modeled after a falcon or vulture in the Tutankhamun collection.

The gilt brass bird has a wingspan of 2" and is 1 3/16" high. The design represents the goddess Nekkbet and came from a necklace that was suspended from King Tut’s neck in the eleventh or twelfth layer of his mummy wrappings, close to the body. It is believed that this he probably wore this the pendant during his lifetime.
Channels are stamped or cut into the body and filled with vibrant enamels in bright red, black, turquoise, and cobalt. The reverse has a simple C clasp as may have been used in antiquity. This colorful feathered creature is in wonderful condition and certainly has a strong character. The pin can slow be worn as a pendant with a converter.
