This vintage, Pre-Ban, carved ivory tablet is incised with a fierce dragon and painted or dyed in shades of gray with a red signature mon. The pendant is 1 ¾" high (not including bail) and 1 3/16" wide. The dragon’s head is upper right; his curly mane swirls around him like clouds. One taloned leg is to the left of the head and one is lower. From the dragon’s mouth pours a curl of fire and a river which falls into the lake below. The signature floats above the lake, lower right.
The intricate, hand-made silver mounting has a border of Etruscan style wire-work circles topped with small balls. The silver frame is stamped on the back with an Asian character; it tests as sterling purity. The pendant has an attached ring bail and I have added an old-stock 20" long sterling silver neck chain. A cord or ribbon in red is also a stunning option. Included is the original silk brocade covered box.
I invite you to examine the exquisite carving on the ivory: its detail is amazing and the condition is superb.
