This lovely late Victorian sash pin with a unique stippled finish is overlaid with an Art Nouveau filigree ornament and topped with an amethyst glass jewel. The 2 5/16" wide brooch has a gilt brass body; the facetted amethyst jewel is bezel set.
The pin closes with a C clasp and is in very fine condition. Sash pins were worn from the late 19th century through the 1930s on sashes or ribbons at the waist. Today, they can be worn similarly or be pinned to a hat, coat, or heavy sweater—no need to limit the imagination with such a pretty period accessory!
