This is a very rare pair of monochrome black vases with gold wire cloisonne decoration. While almost all cloisonne has small cloisons ( cells ) filled with brightly colored enamels, these unusual examples are completely filled with a black enamel. This combined with the amazingly fine wire used in the decoration creates a vase with a unique gold decoration made up solely of the wire-work. They stand 9.5 inches tall and are in excellent condition with some pitting consistant with old enamels. There is also a slight deformation on the edge of the base of one vase. There is no enamel loss.

| These vases are ca. 1880 and are very hard to find. I have only seen one other pair since I started collecting orientalia, and they had been drilled out to be used for lamps. Please check out the pictures, as they accurately represent the condition. Thank you for looking and feel free to use the "contact us" button if you have any questions. Please check out our other fine Oriental items. |
