Here we are offering a genuine antique Buddhist Temple thangka. Thangka literally means " something which can be rolled up ", but is more commonly associated with religious Buddhist pinting done on cloth, and usually mounted on silk brocade. Thangkas are intended to serve as a record of, and guide for contemplative experience. For example, you might be instructed to imagine yourself as a specific figure in a specific setting. A thangka could be used as a reference for the details of posture, attitude, colour, clothing, etc. In this way, thangkas are intended to convey iconographic information in a pictorial manner. This one, of four armed Chenrizig, measures 23 inches by 17 inches is painted on fine canvas, and is unmounted. Chenrezig may be the most popular of all Buddhist deities, except for Buddha himself and is beloved throughout the Buddhist world. He is known by different names in different lands: as Kuan-yin in China, as Kannon in Japan. Please check out the pictures, as they accurately represent the condition. Thank you for looking and feel free to use the "contact us" button if you have any questions. Please check out our other fine Oriental items.
