Vintage 1948 Edition of 'A Christmas Book'
Vintage 1948 edition of 'A Christmas Book', A Collection of Poetry and Prose for Christmas Reading, Edited by Rita M. Sammon. Published by The Leigh Publishers, Chicago, Illinois. The cover is a red velvet-like material, and the pages are hand punched and held together with a green cord. There is a picture of the interior of a cathedral taped to the second page. The first page is inscribed Merry Christmas, To Bernadette and John with love from Evelyn, 1948. A partial list of the contents is: The Nativity by Saint Luke, Stille Nacht by Joseph Mohr, Kings by Joyce Kilmer, The Gentle Art of Christma Giving by Joyce Kilmer, Christmas Carols by Phillips Brooks, Three Kings of Cologne by Eugene Field, Keeping Christmas by Hendry Van Dyke, A Christmas Prayer for Lonely Folks by Henry Van Dyke, etc. There are 42 stories and poems in all, ending with The End of It by Charles Dickens. The pages are in good condition. The cover has a small frayed spot on the top corner and a little wrinkling around the edges. Very good vintage condition for this type of item. This wonderful little poety book brings a touch of nostalgia to the Christmas season.
