Vintage Hakata Doll Man with Ax Vintage Hakata Doll Figure of Working Man (Wood cutter) holding an Ax or Sledge Hammer. He has a weary look on his face with his hand to his forehead, looking for his next job or maybe just taking time to wipe his brow. This Hakata Doll measures 7 1/4'' tall and 4 3/4'' wide and has the traditional dark colors of blue, green, brown and black. The human detail is so realistic. These traditional clay dolls have been made since the 1600s, in the city of Fukuoka (originally named Hakata) Japan. They are fired and then hand painted giving each its own personality. American Soldiers started bringing them home as souveniers after World War II. This figure has a small Japan sticker. There are a couple of specks of paint rubbing which you could touch up if you wish. He is in very good condition for his circa 1950s age.

Vintage Hakata Doll Figure of Kneeling Lady with Sewing Vintage Hakata Doll Figure of a Smiling, Kneeling Woman in brown holding an orange cloth. She is possibly sewing the cloth. Her right hand has a tiny hole that may have held a needle. Many of these Hakata dolls have small pieces added to the figures which have been lost over time. This Hakata Doll measures 5 1/2'' tall and 3 1/2'' wide and has the traditional dark colors of brown and blue. The human detail is so realistic. These traditional clay dolls have been made since the 1600s, in the city of Fukuoka (originally named Hakata) Japan. They are fired and then hand painted giving each its own personality. American Soldiers started bringing them home as souveniers after World War II. This figure has a small Japan sticker. She has a small flake off her back collar (could be touched up) and a lighter color rub on her nose (visible in the pictures--hard to see in person and possibly original). Generally good vintage condition.

These traditional clay dolls have been made since the 1600s, in the city of Fukuoka (originally named Hakata) Japan. They are fired and then hand painted giving each its own personality. American Soldiers started bringing them home as souveniers after World War II. This figure has a red and silver foil sticker, partially smudged with only Hakata Urasake Dolls legible. Numbered 2904. There is a spot on his sleeve where the black paint has rubbed which you could touch up if you wish. This very dignified gentleman is in very good condition for his years.

There is a small glaze pop off the womans coat which could be retouched if you wish and light soiling on the face. Overall good condition on this collectible two-person piece.

This Hakata Doll measures 5 1/2'' tall and 3 1/2'' wide and has the traditional dark color of black and green with grey. The human detail is so realistic. These traditional clay dolls have been made since the 1600s, in the city of Fukuoka (originally named Hakata) Japan. They are fired and then hand painted giving each its own personality. American Soldiers started bringing them home as souveniers after World War II. This figure has an impressed mark on the foot which I cannot read. His black robe has three spots where the color has flaked--probably rubbing from the pole and bucket. His head could use a little cleaning but I'm not sure how to do so. Otherwise he is in good condition and totally adorable.

The human detail is so realistic. These traditional clay dolls have been made since the 1600s, in the city of Fukuoka (originally named Hakata) Japan. They are fired and then hand painted giving each its own personality. American Soldiers started bringing them home as souveniers after World War II. This figure has a small Japan sticker. He has obviously been working hard as his the knees of his pants are rubbd as well as his face. His robe has paint rubbed off the backside, probably from old tape or a sticker. If you are handy with a paint brush, then he could easily be touched up. As is, he is worn, but actually better looking than the pictures show.

These traditional clay dolls have been made since the 1600s, in the city of Fukuoka (originally named Hakata) Japan. They are fired and then hand painted giving each its own unique personality. American Soldiers started bringing them home as souveneirs after World War II. This figure has a foil Original Arnart Creation, Japan sticker. Someone punched a hole in the base, but it does not detract from display. There is a little paint rubbing on the backside. He could use a little cleaning, but he is in very good condition for his age.

Small Hakata Girl Doll Figure Small Hakata Doll Figure of a little Girl dressed in her kimono, seated and pouring tea. She has the classic white bisque like finish, hand painted, in a green kimono with white flowers. She measures 5 1/2'' tall. These Hakata Doll Figures have been made for centuries in Japan. They became popular after World War II in the United States when soldiers began bringing them home as souvenirs. She is marked with a Hakata Doll Association, Genuine Hakata Doll, Made in Japan sticker. There is another sticker which has foreign characters. This adorable little girl needs a touch of cleaning, but is in very good condition.
