Vintage McCoy Pottery Black Stoneware Bean Pot Style Cookie Jar, circa 1939. McCoy made these in black and ivory in 3 and 4 quart sizes. This is the 4 quart size (it is marked with an incised 4). It has cold paint decoration in green stripes and blue flowers. There is a small shallow chip on the lid (barely noticeable) which has been touched up by a previous owner or was original from manufacturer--not sure which. The black paint may have been touched up at one point--some parts are shinier than others. Overall, it looks very good with just minor wear to the cold paint. There is a slight paint? odor when the lid is removed which I was told by an ''expert'' is a sign of an authentic old McCoy Cookie Jar. I tend to judge McCoy authenticity by the glaze colors/detail/decoration appropriate to the time it was made, color of clay, weight and size (very important) as well as where and when it was found. This cookie jar measures 8 3/8'' tall and 10'' wide handle to handle. This is an authentic McCoy Bean Pot Cookie Jar ready for your vintage kitchen. |
