bronze match holder E F Caldwell, NY bizarre faces w/grapes in hair, probably part of a desk set, signed, circa 1900

Japan Meji period inlaid gold, silver on iron box Komai finely detailed gold and silver inlaid on iron box decorated on all surfaces. The outside cover has a large peacock courting a pea hen. the 4 sides are decorated with birds flying over land, water and plants. The gold interior has a finely engraved dragon splashing through the waves while the inside lid has an eagle perched on a branch watching birds fly by and a Victorian styled monogram BSM. The underside has flying cranes and the makers seal.
The condition is like new with minor tarnish/toning on interior.
I believe the techniques used are called gold and silver NUNOME and HIRAZOGAN.
This finley detailed type work was produced by swordsmiths using their talents for peaceful endevors and is considered some of Japans' finest metal work.

Austrian bronze cold paint miniature group depicting 5 dogs bringing down an Elk. finely detailed painting w/virtually no paint loss. It must have taken hours to paint this complicated miniature casting. captures the action of the hunt in a static sculpture.
One of the best miniature groups I've seen in years.
