717
For sale is this wonderful carved Jesus. I believe it was a station of the cross. It is Jesus Falls While Carrying a Cross. The end is broken and I was told that was where the cross extension was. It is missing. This piece came with the following hisotry 'Carved in Quebec in c. 1850 and owned at one time by the Jesuits. The crossis missing. Under the direction of Bishop Laval, two arts and crafts schools were constructed. The first was sited at Cape Tourmente and was known as the Saint-Joachime School of Arts and Crafts. The Quebec Seminary housed the second school. Both Montreal and Trois Rivieres established their own arts and crafts schools. Most of these formally-trained craftsmen, known as the 'main de metier' artists, did not sign their work. Like this particular statue, much of the work done by the early Quebec artists remain anonymous. Carved in Quebec and owned by the Jesuits at one time. The measurements of the piece are 26 x 12 x 8 high. The paint is all old paint over paint. The face is so sorrowful. This piece is a treasure and delight.

Offering this great painting of the interior of a church. Such detail with many figures. It is painted on copper. It measures 18 1/2 x 15 3/4. There is paint loss to both side of the center aisle and it also looks like someone tried to clean the figures in the foreground. Does need restoration but it is a great piece. Signed on the back Neffs, Pieter. Also in black script is another name. Pieter Neffs was a Flemish artist who is known for architectural paintings of interiors, many church interiors as this one.

For sale is this beautiful Santos. He stands about 12 inches tall. All of his paint looks to be original, however there is loss to the paint. The wings seem to be attached by some other means than originally intended. I think they were broken at one time and have been reattached. It looks like there is a heart design going down the one side of his robe.

For sale is this beautiful picture of St. John Newman of Boston. The picture is c. 1870. St. John Newman is the Healing Saint. I love the small size of this piece, it measures 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 inches. The frame is done in a natural finish wood with a gilt inset. There are two metal decorations on either side of the top. The glass is ever so slighty bubbled. The print is of 3 cherubs hovering over St. John Newman. He is standing over a table that has a book and skull on it.
