| This vintage dusty rose red Cemar strawberry cookie jar was found at an estate sale. In the 1940's Cemar was bought by Bauer. The mouth is 4 inches wide, the body is 7 inches tall without the lid, 28.5 inches widest circumference of the strawberry, 4.25 inches diameter of the base, 4 5/8 inches diameter of the lid. On the bottom is imprinted into the base Cemar 768 and above the "r" is also a number "15". There is a bit of crazing on the 2 leaf tips, top and bottom of lid.The bottom outside of the base of the strawberry body has crazing but I don't see any crazing on the inside of the base or on the body. There is a very small chip on the lip of the mouth which I tried to show in the photo. The lid is trimmed with yellow and brown with green leaves, brown stem and a green berry for a handle. It looks to me to be hand painted. This is a beautiful piece in very decent shape for the age. No scratches, cracks or chips on the body or lid other then the one I mentioned. A fabulous find. I believe the lid is not the original.Thru my searches I have come across Hammer brothers cookie jars and the lid looks very much like that of a Hammer Bros. make.If you would rather purchase the Cemar cookie jar without the lid, there can be a price adjustment done. Please ask about it if you are interested. |
