| Vintage walnut wood turned barrel cookie jar from the 50's 60's makes a great addition to a collection of cookie jars or as a gift or add to household decor.8 3/4 inches tall to the top of the lid.The wood nob is 1 inch tall. The body is 7 inches tall. The mouth is 5 7/8 inches wide. The wall of the walnut wood sides is 3/4 inch thick. The lid is 1 3/4 inches wide. The wood nob is held to the cover with a screw and washer. The walnut wood cookie jar is in the shape of a barrel showing the rings that are usually metal on a barrel holding the wood together. These rings on the cookie jar are carved into the wood. Please look at the photos which show the chips on the cover top rim and the cover and body covered here and there with small splatters of paint & abrasions and scratches here and there, all on the outside. In all probabitlities, someone painting didn't protect jar from splatters. There is a beautiful satin sheen to the dark stain of the lid and body inside and out.The bottom doesn't have the satin sheen but it is stained. The inside of the base is light color and not stained and I believe is a replaced piece.Even though a crack can be see on the base in the inside,it does not go through the bottom. There is a repair on the lid edge that you can see on the photo.A very well used old walnut barrel shaped cookie jar shows all the happy days it once had.It probably would look absolutely wonderful if all the paint splatters were removed without damaging the patina of the walnut wood.I think it's so gorgeous. |
