Ironstone Covered Dish – Pankhurst & Co. 1850’s A very old piece of stone china, marked on bottom: Stone China - Pankhurst & Co., - Hanley. Is with three pieces, the base, lid and insert. Both the base and the lid have hairlines. Has a nice shape, rather a pedestal design. Size: 4 ¾ inches height to top of handle on lid, 6 ¼ inches across the rim, and the footed base is 4 inches across the bottom. Insert is 4 ½ inches across. Heavy crazing on all three pieces, appropriate for age, would display well. This company was in business 1852-1882 in Hanley, England.

TE2142

Wood & Son Ironstone – England – Open Server/Bowl An Ironstone serving bowl made by Wood & Son of Burslem England. It is nicely marked on bottom with a backstamp, has an impressed Registry Mark of R.53930 (I believe, hard to read) and the numbers 7 over 87 in a third place. This potter began his business in 1865, so perhaps the 87 (1887) is the year it was produced? Not sure, that may be too logical. It is very plain, has no decoration, 7-1/2 inches length, 5-1/2 inches width, 1/12 inches height at the rim, base is 5 by 3 inches. Has the usual brown age spots, stacking marks, has a chip on the top inner rim that is under the glaze, so a manufacturing flaw, areas of raised clay, again all manufacturing flaws.

TE0669

White Ironstone 12 Panel Handle-Less Cup Unmarked white paneled ironstone cup, with a 12-panel side design, raised from a smaller base. Cup is 3 1/8 inches in height, with a top opening of 3 ¼ inches and a base of 1-¾ inches. Has a tight hairline in the bottom, and some discoloration, and a few very minor rim chips (you can feel by rubbing fingernail over – not noticeable). Most likely is 100 years of age, so some flaws to be expected in my opinion, in a piece of this age. Displays nicely- a Gothic Shape Pattern.

TE0870

Ironstone Small Covered Dish – J. & G. Meakin 1870’s Ironstone round, covered dish, signed on bottom: Ironstone China – (Trademark) –J.&G. Meakin – Hanley – England. Measures 6 ¼ inches across the top rim, with the lid removed, 2 ½ inches height to the rim (lid removed) and 4 ½ inches to top of handle with lid in place. Also has a 4 ½ inch insert, and this could be used as either a small bowl, a butter or a soap dish. The bottom is smooth and the lid is decorated with a pattern of grains, perhaps wheat. Nice blue/gray cast to the ironstone coloring. The rim shows wear, the lid has one minor flake, which does not show when resting on the bowl. From the trademark, I would date this to 1870-1880’s.

TE0670

White Ironstone Handle-Less Cup & Saucer –Moss Rose Pattern Handle-less white ironstone cup and saucer, with a nice leaf and floral pattern to both pieces. I am selling together, but they may be two different patterns, but look wonderful together.

The cup stands 3 inches height - top is 3 ¼ inches across, base of 1-½ inches across. Has a top border design, and there are three areas of a leaf and floral design, which I believe to be "Moss Rose". There are three leaves on the top and two below the stem, with the rose to the right, stem to the left. The cup probably dates to the 1870’s – ref: White Ironstone: A Collector’s Guide, pg. 127

The saucer measures just under 6 inches and has a border rim design, with a sprig hanging from the border in 5 places, marked on bottom: Ironstone China – the mark used 1870-1900 - J.& G. Meakin – Hanley – England

Condition: The cup is wonderful, nice shine, very few age marks. The saucer, has little shine left, has some rim discoloration, a dark spot by the cup indentation – no chips, cracks, or hairlines to either piece.
