Ready to frame. It is generally agreed that the two greatest paintings on earth are the work of Italian artist Raphael(1483-1520). One is "Sistine Madonna" and the other is "The Transfiguration". This is a very excellent condition full page supurb 19th century engraving made direct from Raphael's masterpiece canvas titled "The Transfiguration". This engraving is removed from the 1899 copyright book titled "The Light of the World, A Book Without Words...Every Picture A Sermon", which contains over 100 full page engravings of the world's greatest masterpieces. A copy of this book is in the Smithsonian Library. The publisher's preface is signed by Abram P. T. Elder. The engraving page measures 9 1/4" X 11" and the engraving measures 5 1/2" X 8 1/4". Each engraving comes with the original guard sheet with a descriptive letterpress. Raphael, an Italian artist, painted this canvas by order of Pope Clement VII, in 1520, and when this great master died it was still unfinished. Giulio Romano completed it. This canvas was stolen by Napoleon but has since been returned to the Vatican in Rome. Satisfaction guaranteed. Happy shopping at My Gigi's Treasures! |
