Circa: 1950s Condition: Excellent Size: XS Type: Circle Skirt Manufacturer: Unknown The circle skirt is one of those pieces of fashion history that brings to mind so much more than just fashion. Immediately thoughts go to rock 'n' roll and bobby soxers, the corner drug store soda fountain, ice cream parlors, hamburgers...and the list could go on and on...

its the fifties in full swing!
But according to my research, the circle skirt really began in the forties and sort of blossomed into one of those inexplicable fads of fashion history. It just caught on. I can see why. They move so well. And, they were an empty canvas, waiting to be filled with all kinds of wonderful things--poodles being one of them!
This circle skirt is flannel and probably from the late forties or early fifties. It is the epitome of this genre: so many inches around, a period pattern of swirls follows the lines of the skirt. A great collectable!
This one has no tags, but measures 26" inches at the waist. Of course it is full at the hips, and its length from the waist to the shirt-tail hem is 28".
Although used, it is in very very good condition. There is some very slight fading close to the waist, but I'm not absolutely sure that isn't the intention of the pattern itself. At any rate, it does not mar the skirt in any way. (By the way, although from a distance this skirt looks grey, it is really black and white. The colors somehow meld from a distance!) It does have its original button and functional metal zipper.
This skirt would be fabulous to use as a costume or to display or just wear. Its a great piece of Americana. It would look fabulous with a soft (or hot, as you like it) pink cashmere sweater set!
From previous experience let me tell you, this skirt won't be here long. Don't let this one get away!
