Think Nora (Thin Man Movies). Nick and Nora always looked spiffy. This mock derby is exactly what Nora would have worn. Maybe she did, who knows? Anyway, this hat is definitely 30s chic.
Perched upon the head it generates--from one angle, a somewhat defiant mood..

"I can wear a derby as well as any man!" From another perspective its quite demure and you really think Merna Loy or Claudette Colbert--the epitome of the genteel--is going to speak with you.
I think its the dark dark brown felt or maybe its the little yellow feather that does it for me. Well, maybe its the cut-work for the threaded felt "ribbon" and bow. I'm not sure what makes me like this hat so much.
Another hat from my personal collection, this hat is made by Merrimac Hat Corp. Its 100% wool felt and is in Excellent MINTY (I NEVER say the M word) condition. Also includes a hat box from the period.
