Circa: Late 20s, early 30s Condition: Excellent: Gently Wearable Size: M Type: Silk Batise or Chiffon Manufacturer: Unknown This is one of those charming, prized, and sought after floral lightweight silk chiffon dresses from the late twenties or early thirties. If you loved THE GREAT GATSBY, this is a true "Daisy Buchanan" style, and is strewn with large cabbage roses and lavender hydrangea.
At the neckline, the scarfy lightweight batise is draped loosely across the bodice, and forms a wide, floaty cape around the shoulders. The "V" neckline is trimmed with lovely antique lace, and unusual cream colored buttons with rhinestone chips(all chips present). The fullness of the skirt is controlled by shirring on the sides, which is almost covered with a self sash on left side and forms a lovely scarfy bow.

The flirty, uneven hem on the bias cut skirt an authentic touch for dresses of this period, and makes for elegant movement. The snap opening on the left side presents an easy closure and extra room for donning the dress! The overall condition is excellent! I see no holes, rips, or stains. No odors. There are a few small mends but they are expertly done and completely lost in the print. I have included a soft, ecro, vintage slip (not original to the dress) with no trim for a sleek look underneath.
Although the dress is very wearable, I recommend gentle treatment. It is clean now, and ready to wear! After use, let a fine fabrics cleaner keep it clean for you. Its worth a bit of care, as virtually nowhere can you get this kind of design and style in this century!
The structure of the dress leaves a good deal of flexibility for size. It's nice that this dress is not so very small, like many are from this period. Because of the faux wrap front, the dropped waistline of the skirt can be tied loosely or tighter for a better fit. The scarf over-blouse leaves a little breathing room too. Of course, there are no tags, so I will give you measurements for a good fit.
Bust: 36-38" Waist: 30-33" Hips: 38-40" Underarm to Waist: 9" Waist to Hem: 36"
This dress is in excellent shape and certainly wearable--even if somewhat gently because of the age of the fabric.
Pictures do not adequately portray the beauty of this piece of American fashion history! This dress would make a lovely addition to a collection for display, or can be gently worn authentically with a large straw hat and handbag, cream strap Mary Jane pumps, and a string of pearls.
Daisy herself would approve!
