Circa: 1940s-50s Condition: Excellent Size: M Type: Formal or Party Dress Manufacturer: Emma Domb Party Lines When I walked in and saw this dress I fell in love. What a beautiful dress! I knew right away it must have been made by someone who understood design. And sure enough, it was Emma Domb --the Vera Wang of the 50s and 60s! There are designers who just instinctively know how to dress a woman.

And we were lucky to find one in such wonderful shape and tagged from her earliest ventures--Party Lines. It was her first label, started in 1939, and ran through the early 40's.
This dress is a silk chiffon floral print (with an almost Hawaiian palette!) layered over a cream taffeta underskirt. The gathering at the bodice and cape sleeve is just the right touch to keep the chiffon controlled but soft and elegant and allows it to flow and not be restrictive.
There are yards and yards of fabric there--no skimping as you see in many of these style dresses. And the flow is lovely for dancing. On the stage, it would be a standout for recitals, music reviews or for a period piece. But I would take it dancing!
The measurements are: Bust: 36-38" Waist: 29" Waist to hem: 42"
This dress is in excellent condition! No holes, stains, tears, or odors. Just beautiful silk chiffon done Emma Domb style!
Emma Domb clothing is very collectible and will only increase in value as time goes on. So, wear it now--this style is always very popular and classic--and keep it for the future as an investment! |
