Circa: 1960s Condition: Excellent-Minty and Wearable Size: XS/S Type: Dressy Dress Manufacturer: Mr. Eddie Its hard to find a perfect category for this dress. At the time it was made it was definitely a dressy dress, meant for public wear like church and garden club parties.

Now, however it could really be worn anywhere--school, business or everyday wear or for a barefooted walk on the beach! That's what's nice about this century--it all depends on your lifestyle and the look that fits your personality.
One thing is clear, however. This is a wiggle dress if I ever saw one. Mr. Eddie is the designer and such a demure yet sexy look he achieved with this dress! And so sixties-- with its 3/4 length raglin sleeve (with triangle-shaped gussets for ease of movement), its back-buckle bow belt, and pencil skirt with an ample front pleat. Back original zipper makes it easy to get on and ample pleat makes it easy to walk! A bonus is the two hidden side pockets!
The maize color of this dress works great with accessories--beads & bangles, drop necklaces, and scarves tied a zillion different ways would not just accessorize, but would give this dress an entirely different look and thus stretch the wardrobe! This dress, with its classic heavy linen, can go dressy with a fur (or faux) or to work with a nice jacket. Like I said, its as versatile as the day is long!
The condition of the dress is really excellent. The zipper and belt are original to the dress, and the bow belt is the most unique I have ever seen! The back of the belt is marked with "Mr. Eddie" 12, which I guess means the dress was a size 12-- although I can't understand a 12 being this small! (There is a small bit of fraying on the belt buckle but nothing that detracts or would cause any problems).
There are no sizes given, so we will go by measurement for a good fit.
Bust: 34-36" Waist: 26-27" Belt: 30" at largest, 26" at tightest Waist to hem: 25"
Hips:36-37"
With its strong maize color and simple lines, this dress would make a fabulous costume also and would look great on the stage!
For a period look, add a pair of white gloves and beads, a large hat, clutch bag with matching pumps and you are good to go!
For contemporary wear, add a scarf at the neck, sling back shoes, and a shoulder strap bag to update the look. |
