Circa: 1920s Condition: Excellent and Wearable Size: One Size Type: Quilted Manufacturer: Regal Hat--Los Angeles California I call this hat the "Thelma" hat, after my mother's best friend as a young woman in the 1920s. My mother was Velma, and her best friend was Thelma! They were both lovely girls, and this is a lovely cloche hat from that period.

Soft and worn helmet-like, close to the head, this pink flapper hat is quilted in a black ribbon stitch all over, and boasts a row of silk flowers and a self ruffle at the front. This hat is a Regal Hat of Los Angeles, California.
Worn with suits and dresses of the period, this hat would dress up a plain cotton dress or compliment a chiffon or velvet concoction. Like most true cloche hats of the period, this hat needs a short haircut to fit properly.
It was said of the cloche that it was responsible for the flapper's snobbish reputation as it was worn so far down on the forehead, a girl had to tilt her head back in order to see. This created the upturned nose that the flappers were notorious for donning (along with their other scandalous attire!).
This hat is made of a dull satin or a taffeta-like fabric (with a slight sheen), and is lined with a lighter weight silk taffeta. It is clean and in excellent condition.
Care: Because of the silk lining and flowers, I would spot clean and overall dry clean it if it is in need of a complete cleaning. It comes to you clean and ready to wear or display! |
