Pendleton is a name familiar to vintage clothing collectors. To make a long story short, Pendleton originally made textiles and blankets, then suits for men, and finally plaid woolen shirts for men. Unlike most wool shirts available at that time, these were brightly colored plaids. (After WWII Pendleton Mills began making woolen goods for women as well.)
As luck would have it, it seems that there was an obscure singing group somewhere in America who liked the shirts and decided to name themselves "the Pendletons"--all wearing one of the bright colored plaids. The group changed their name later to "the Beach Boys" and suddenly Pendleton plaids were all the rage with young people in America.
This is a lovely jacket, with fine workmanship, as with all Pendleton goods. It is in almost MINT condition. You will not be disappointed in this purchase. It can be worn now, and its value will increase with time. |
