Circa: 1940s Condition: Excellent Size: S Type: Red Crepe with Red Stone Settings Manufacturer: House of Shroyers This is a great red crepe day dress from the 1940s. Sometimes its hard to distinguish the 60s from the 40s, because designers of the 60s often borrowed from the 40s because they had such an elegent sense of style. But everything about this dress says 1940s: fabric, embroidered decoration, side and neck metal zipper, and length.

The fabric is a nice-weight rayon crepe, typical of the period. It's heavy enough to be non- transparent, so the wearer can go without a slip, but light enough to be dressy. The flower embroidery, which is on the bodice of the dress and repeated on the skirt, is accentuated by a scattering of red stone centers.
The fitted bodice boasts 3/4 length sleeves, also typical of the period, and an A-line skirt. The functional metal side zipper is repeated at the back neck with a short zipper for ease of putting on. The whole look of the dress is lovely, with its clean lines and focused color.
The tag reads "House of Shroyers", which was an American dress manufacturing company located in Shamokin, PA. No size tags. Measurements are:
Bust:36-38" Waist:29"-30" Underarm to waist:7.5" Waist to hem:25" Sleeve: (straight arm from shoulder):16"
Great little dress for dressing up with red bangles, red glass rhinestone earrings (or the little clips we are featuring!) and pumps or flats. Comfortable, easy and feminine. |
