This lovely empire waist formal dress from the late 1960s is amazing! You would have to touch to really experience the sensual quality of this dress. Visually, the design is exquisite with an unusual combination of velvet and embroidery trimmed with ecru cotton lace on the puff sleeve, underbust and lower edge of the skirt.
The dress is in excellent condition. It has its original functional back zipper, no stains, holes or odors. The bodice is lined with a cotton blend matching the velvet in color. The heaviness of the velvet precludes any reason for wearing a slip with this dress unless more fullness (or warmth) is wanted The manufacturer's tag reads: "Couriers". Care tag says: Dry Clean Only". The size tag reads: size 6, but we need to measure, as vintage sizes rarely correlate to modern sizing.

This is a truly lovely dress with a beautiful drape. It would be appropriate for any party or formal function during the fall or winter seasons. Shoes I suggest to be fabric covered pumps or flats, and metal toned strap sandals or flats.

COSTUMING NOTE: This dress could be used as a medieval dress or a base for a medieval dress. For that, I would add a color match undersleeve and perhaps a contrasting detachable train. |
