Circa: 1955 Condition: Excellent! Size: S Type: Rayon Blend Manufacturer: L'Aiglon So much to say about this dress--
During WWII, fabric was rationed in order to provide uniforms for the war effort. The result was shorter skirts, and straighter lines in design for all clothing in the 1940s. Women were really ready for Christian Dior's " New Look" which hit the runways after WWII. With its natural line in the bodice and extremely full and longer skirts, it brought back some of the luxury to dressing that women had become accustomed to in the late 1930s.

The style also fits many body types and was, and remains, very popular--as it and looks nice equally on very thin and heavier women.
This is a great dress with classic "New Look" styling with a fitted, princess style seamed bodice attached to a full circle skirt--shown here with a nylon crinoline petticoat (not included). It could be made even fuller by adding more petticoats, as there is lots of fabric in this dress! There is just nothing that is more attractive on a woman's body!
Made by L'Aiglon, this particular dress is made of a rayon blend woven fabric, and has its original and functional metal zipper, as well as a pocket on the right side of the full circle skirt. The bodice is constructed with princess seams that end at the waistline with matching bows, and 3/4 length raglan style "push-up" sleeves (that effectively hide elbows, and makes your lower arm a great bangle venue!).
The soft overall gray color makes it possible to make several different looks and give opportunity to show off an array of vintage collars, scarves, jewelry, and belts, (bows could be easily removed or covered with a belt) with this one dress! It's also great for showing off some of those lovely vintage coats, even if they have a pattern.
Originally probably worn dressed up with leather or suede pumps, or flats , pearls, handbag, gloves, and a big hat (think Audrey Hepburn), but can certainly be dressed down to wear to school or out shopping.
The manufacturer's tag reads : L'Aiglon: use cool iron, avoid steam. The size tag is "size 6" but as we know, vintage sizing does not usually correlate to modern sizing. So we will measure for a good fit.
Bust: 36-38" Waist: 27" Hips: full Underarm to Waist: 9" Waist to Hem: 30" Hem: 1" (usable) Sleeve length: 15" from shoulder, straight arm
The dress is in excellent condition. I see no spots or stains, tears or snags in the fabric. There are no odors. Clean and ready to wear to school, church, or work--anywhere you want to feel beautiful!
