This is an original 8 X 10 glossy featuring an unidentified couple in formal riding gear, standing in front of a very old tree. The back of the photo has hand-written notations indicating that it was used at some time for unidentified publicity purposes. We have studied this photo at great length under a magnifying glass, and have concluded that it's 99.9999% likely that these two people are Marlene Dietrich and Cary Grant. They did only one movie together, "Blonde Venus," in 1932. Grant played a wealthy playboy who pursued Dietrich's character over a period of years and treated her to expensive gifts and an elegant lifestyle. The costumes would seem to support both their roles in the movie and the time frame. Although this photo is in soft focus, certain features are very distinctive, particularly his cleft chin. This could be a very rare find!
These photos are part of a large private collection compiled during the 1960s and 1970s, and were found in the collector's estate. The condition is generally as shown in this listing, but please bear in mind that the large collection of unframed photos have been in the late collector's files for 40 years. She was prominent in the film and fashion worlds, traveled extensively, and the collection traveled with her.
