Small Chinese Cinnabar Box - c. 1920
This lovely Chinese cinnabar box dates to 1920. It was purchased from the estate of a woman who lived for a number of years in the Orient.
The box measures 3 1/4" long, 2 1/2" wide & 1 3/4" high. There is some damage that is not apparent at first glance -- on the outside the back corner of the lid & back corner of the base have chips.
There is also some damage apparent when the box is opened. It is a lovely example of excellent cinnabar from that period with a very detail scene on the top of the box. There are two oriental people, detailed tree, leaves, rocks & mountains.
It is still usable or, placed just right, makes an excellent conversation piece. Because of it's quality, it could be professionally repaired. It has "China" on the base. Thank you for shopping at The Treasure Chest. (Item ID:TT-07)

Vintage Oriental Brass & Hand Carved Stone Match Box Holder
A very ornate, vintage Oriental match box safe or holder in floral patterned brass & hand carved stone top.
The holder is oriental in origin & is signed on the bottom with letters I cannot decipher in it's entirety. The original match box was deteriorated & fell apart. It had oriental scenes on 3 sides & "Ohio Blue Tip Matches" on the 4th side.
There is some patination from age in the corners, but it is a very lovely piece for coffee table or display cabinet. Thank you for stopping by The Treasure Chest. (Item ID:A-07)

This is a beautiful Japanese cast iron Tetsubin water pot -- an attractive as well as useful item for your home.
There is a raised artist signature in Oriental script on the upper left side. The lid is topped by a cast iron pine cone. The upper part of the body of the pot has a tiny hob-nail pattern for added eye appeal.
The pot is about 7" in diameter at it's widest part & it measures approximately 8" from base to top of the handle.
I believe this dates post-WW II. All in all, it is very attractive & handy whether you are a collector of Orientalia or you'd love to have a useful as well as decorative item for your home.

Fantastic Oriental Silver/Brass Coal Basket - Engraved Figures
This is a most beautiful "white brass", or silver on brass, coal basket purchased some time ago from the estate of a couple who had spent many years in the Orient - this is not an export piece.
The basket appears to be silver, except in certain lighting where it looks as if it is a very pale brass. There are engraved figures of people, buildings, flowers, mountains, rivers & rocks -- all very detailed & beautiful. I believe the blue color in the engravings are from the aging patina. Any "yellow" color is reflected from items around the piece.
The box measures 8 1/2" long, 6 12" wide, 4 1/2" tall, & with the bail up, 6 1/2" tall. It is a wonderful, heavy piece & the handle is solid. There are no markings on the bottom as this was a piece brought from China. I washed it, but it is still apparent that coals had been placed inside. The lid is reticulated with an Oriental symbol in the center of the lid. I cannot describe enough the beauty of this piece. Thank you for visiting The Treasure Chest. (Item ID:E-19)

Vintage Oriental Brass Censer
A beautiful, ornate, unusual Oriental incense burner from the estate of a lady who lived for some years in the Orient.
The censer measures 8 1/4" in length & 6 1/2" high. The horse-like, archaic creature on the lid serves as a finial & is supposed to be a unicorn -- apparently they could flatten their horn if they wished. The unicorn has ornate scrolls all over it's body.
The sides have ornate, detailed, phoenix birds with flowing feathers, for handles. The base is supported by four winged creatures. On each side of the burner are two men in flowing robes. One appears to have the sacred fungus over his shoulder & the other is offering him a large covered dish, either with food or as a gift.
The censer is very heavy & ornate. There are no marks as I believe the former owner lived in the Orient. It is a heavy 2 1/4 lbs. This will add a wonderful conversation piece for your living room or your fire place mantel.
This is an ideal piece for the collector of Orientalia or for the person who likes the aroma of incense wafting through the room. Thank you for shopping at The Treasure Chest.(Item ID:SS-04)

Pair Oriental Burgundy Lacquer Hand Painted Dragon Boxes
A very lovely antique matching pair of burgundy lacquer boxes with hand painted dragons in the clouds on each lid.
The larger box measures 4 7/8" long, 3 1/2" wide & 2 1/8" deep. The smaller box is 4 3/8" long, 3" wide & 1 3/4" deep. The smaller box fits perfectly inside the larger.
The lacquer is quite good, especially considering their age. On the large box the lid has some wear on one corner & edge & minor wear on base at corners. The smaller box is basically in very good condition with some minor wear along one bottom edge.
The dragons are 5 clawed & typically in the clouds with the flaming pearl. They are hand painted in gold, silver & red.
The boxes are from the collection of Col. Donald Davis, U. S. Army (Ret'd.), former child movie star in the old Mack Sennett movies under the names of John Henry, Jr. & Don Morris. Col. Davis lived the Orient after WW II, has traveled or lived throughout the world, collecting many beautiful & interesting items. At 87, Col. Davis is still very active & still collecting!

Fabulous Antique Oriental Hand-Carved Rose Wood Box w/Key
This splendid rose wood box dates no later than 1880's & is the most beautiful box I have seen. It comes with it's own key & the lock works easily.
The carving on the outside lid of the box are at least 1/2" in relief. There is a highly animated, 5-claw dragon & 4 birds carrying what appear to be prunus blossom leafy branches. There are numerous other oriental symbols as well.
Even the sides, front & back of the box are designed in relief with dragons & symbols. There appears to be a monogram of 3 letters between the two dragons.
The inside of the box is pristine. We believe the base may have been replaced, but it is difficult to say. The inside lid of the box has two 5-clawed dragons facing each other. We are in disagreement about what appears to be a 3-letter monogram between the two dragons. A shou symbol, & other designs add to the overall design. While these are carved in lower relief, they are beautifully & intricately done. There is some minor damage to the inner edge of the box lid.
This is for the advanced collector of orientalia or boxes. We offer lay away plans for our buyers. Thank you for visiting The Treasure Chest.

Hand-Carved Stone Oriental Teapot
We purchased this item on a trip to China some years ago. It is found in only one area of China where this particular type of stone is found. It is hand carved with the handle, finial & spout in the form of bamboo. The spout even has a "branch" running from one side of the spout into the side of the pot with engraved bamboo leaves at the end of the branch.
The pot measures approximately 3 1/4" in diameter, 5 1/2" from tip of spout to outer part of the handle, & 2 3/4" from base to top of lid finial. If you like oriental & teapots, this item fits both categories & is certainly out of the ordinary for the average collector. Thank you for stopping by The Treasure Chest. (Item ID:V-20)

Vintage Tetsubin Cast Iron Water Pot
A very nice, vintage cast iron Japanese Tetsubin water pot, pre-world war II.
An older, Tetsubin water pot, cast iron, in good condition. There appears to be no signature on this piece, unless it was on the center bottom of the pot & has worn.
The pot is approximately 8 1/4" tall & measures 8" across from the back of the pot to the tip of the spout. It has an interesting raised dot or hob nail pattern on the upper half, including the lid.
This slightly larger than any I've had before & the older ones were often larger than more recently fabricated pots. Thank you for visiting The Treasure Chest.

Cast Iron Water Pot - Tetsubin - Miniature
Lovely Japanese Cast Iron Tetsubin teapot or water pot, with signature of artist in raised oriental script on the side - a perfect miniature of the larger famous water pots.
It appears to have had gentle usage & age on it but it still has part of a paper label on the underside of the lid. It measures 4 1/2" from back of pot to tip of spout & approximately 2 3/4" from base to tip of lid finial.
In addition to the raised signature, there are small flowers & petals around the pot. The lid has a partial paper label in the shape of a double gourd on the under side, which I am unable to read.
This is a great item for the tea lover, the oriental collector or for person who collects utensils of cast iron. Thank you for visiting The Treasure Chest.
