Manufacturer: Mettlach METTLACH Stein - Cavalier Drinking .5L #1796 stein.
The stein is in excellent condition, with the inlaid lid, & solid Mettlach "5-ring" hinge. The bottom has the incised Mettlach castle mark & GEGEN NI....... DUN; GESCHULTZT; a blue 10; the stein number 1796; with the number 94 to the left; & number 28 to the right. This mark was to have been used between 1885 - 1930.
The main figure is a drinking cavalier, hence it's name. Incised near the bottom of the handle is: C. WARTH, who joined the company as an artist around 1850 & went on to become director of the Mettlach art department.
It has a monkey in the left panel & a cat in the right pattern. The etched inlaid lid has a fish over knife, fork & plate.

The stein is flawless with multicolored enameling. It is truly a prize.
