A beautiful, ornate, unusual Oriental incense burner from the estate of a lady who lived for some years in the Orient.
The censer measures 8 1/4" in length & 6 1/2" high. The horse-like, archaic creature on the lid serves as a finial & is supposed to be a unicorn -- apparently they could flatten their horn if they wished. The unicorn has ornate scrolls all over it's body.
The sides have ornate, detailed, phoenix birds with flowing feathers, for handles. The base is supported by four winged creatures. On each side of the burner are two men in flowing robes. One appears to have the sacred fungus over his shoulder & the other is offering him a large covered dish, either with food or as a gift.
The censer is very heavy & ornate. There are no marks as I believe the former owner lived in the Orient. It is a heavy 2 1/4 lbs. This will add a wonderful conversation piece for your living room or your fire place mantel.
This is an ideal piece for the collector of Orientalia or for the person who likes the aroma of incense wafting through the room. Thank you for shopping at The Treasure Chest.(Item ID:SS-04) |
