This intriguing figural bronze stem on marble base oil lamp is shown in Thuro Book II on page 54.
The exception is the font. It is illustrated in the composite section which dates c.1860-1880. There is speculation that some of the glass fonts were imported. This font has lovely cut flowers & leaves as a design.
The figure is that of an impish, very properly dressed, young girl holding a mouse in one hand, seemingly teasing a cat she holds by the tail with her other hand. Cat lovers take notice.
This lamp has the desirable Queen Anne burner & appropriate chimney, & base w/burner is 13" tall but measures 22" w/the chimney.
This is a real conversation piece for the collector or person needing a fully functional oil lamp. Thank you for visiting The Treasure Chest. |
