MAJ09-2

1870's GEORGE JONES MAJOLICA STRAWBERRT NAPKIN PLATE The photos tell the story for this 8 inch plate. Crisp mold, bright colors, and excellent condition. Marked in India Ink on a small unglazed spot on the plate bottom. The meanings of these marks are not known but they are typical of Jones, and I have owned examples of this plate with the factory mark. This plate was part of a strawberry serving set that included the large 1873 serving dish pictured on page 53 of Robert Cluett's GEORGE JONES CERAMICS 1861 - 1951.
Circa: 1870

Smallest Etruscan Shell & Seaweed Albino Teapot This is the rare smallest size (just over 5 inches tall) shell & seaweed teapot in albino colors. This piece has been in our collection for years, we bought it at the Majolica Auctions sale of the Ellis and Anna Stern collection of Etruscan majolica (label still attached). This is the remarkable early collection of Etruscan Majolica featured in Wildey C. Rickerson's early books on collecting majolica (photo shows page with photograph that likely includes this piece). This is a rare piece from an important collection.

Condition: Very good - loss of some of the applied gold.

9922-81

Colorful Moehling Dog & Cart Majolica Smokeset, 1875 You are looking at an exceptional Johann Moehling (Aich, Bohemia, 1849 - 1875) smokeset featuring a dog and cart. A smokeset from the same mold is seen in a full page illustration - Plate 285 - on page 124 of D. Michael Murray's EUROPEAN MAJOLICA. The one in the illustration is the more common and less desireable monochome version. This one is from Moehling's later production and displays his fully developed skills in molding and color glaze application and development. Among the finest of his production. It is 8.5 inches wide and 5.25 inches high.

Good condition, with a professional repair to the dog's neck
Circa: 1900
