You are looking at an exceptional Johann Moehling (Aich, Bohemia, 1849 - 1875) smokeset featuring a dog and cart. A smokeset from the same mold is seen in a full page illustration - Plate 285 - on page 124 of D. Michael Murray's EUROPEAN MAJOLICA. The one in the illustration is the more common and less desireable monochome version. This one is from Moehling's later production and displays his fully developed skills in molding and color glaze application and development. Among the finest of his production. It is 8.5 inches wide and 5.25 inches high.
