This is a wonderful Ridgway Blue Transferware Tureen. This tureen has a rounded look to it with a chain of blue colored roses attached at points to the angular, almost Roman style border on the both the lid and bowl. The top handle of the lid is artistically finished to look as though it was mounted on a leaf. The blue is nice and deep and there is a small amount of flowing or bleeding to the surrounding clay.
The condition is very good to excellent. It has crazing but no cracks or repairs that I could tell.
From the little research I did on this item I was able to discover that the Ridgway pottery where this was made is now part of the Royal Doulton pottery line. The mark on this tureen tells me that it was made after 1911. It has the look of an earlier piece.
I am showing this item at our antique mall, so it is not offered exclusively. So if you want it, wait for me to respond to you as to its availability before any money changes hands. If you decide to buy it, I will pull it from inventory as soon as I can get to the mall. |
