This is an old Sheffield Brace in the Henry Bee Sheffield style. I believe it was made by the Henry Brown & Sons between 1850 and 1900. The fastening screw for the bits has Henry Bee Sheffield marked on it. In any case, this is an interesting tool that appears to be entirely functional. The top turns easily, probably due to the the design of the spindle, and there appears to be no undue wear even though it is over 100 years old. The maker's mark is on the neck of the brace.
This brace is in excellent condition for its age. There was one brass plate that had a slight buckling.
