The Title, the author's name, a design repeated from the boards, and the Signed First Edition indicia are enclosed within horizontal rules and are gilt-stamped to the spine, separated by four untooled raised leather bands. The top-edges, fore-edges, and bottom-edges of the text block are gilt. The endpapers and pastedowns are beautifully marbled in pale green tones. Artist Alan E. Cober illustrated the color frontispiece. A message to the collector from the Editors is laid-in. A gorgeous, as-new copy.
In this ambitious political novel, Dunne's tale centers on the Brodericks, a family that loosely resembles the Kennedys. Power games abound both in politics and in the Catholic Church--a subject that Dunne had also covered in True Confessions (1977). This outstanding book is bound in genuine leather and features gilded, sewn in pages and ribbon marker, simply superb quality, Franklin Library at its best; 8vo; Signed by Author.
