Bullmastiff dog year 2000 label/stamp. This very pretty label/stamp was issued for East Timor in the year 2000,(even though it looks like a postage stamp,in that it has perforations,gum on the reverse etc),it is probably not one in that it was never designed to perform a postal duty.It also has a cancellation mark on it that was very probably applied at the printers.It measures 1 inch by 2 inches approx and is in very good condition. Bullmastiff original single playing card. This very pretty single playing card was recently issued in China. This single playing card measures 4.75 inches by 3.5 inches approx. It is in very good condition although it does have some small areas of surface disturbance which can mainly be seen when the card is held at angle to the light....please see the scan. The image and the text are a little clearer than the scan shows them to be.

This very nice single card was issued in England in 1961 by Hornimans Tea and is part of their 48 card series entitled "Dogs".It has printed text on the reverse relating to the breed.It measures 2.75 inches by 1.5 inches approx and is in very good condition although it does have some light scratching on the front which can be mainly seen when the card is held at an angle to the light.The printed text on the reverse of this card reads as follows....."Of comparatively recent origin, being a straight cross between the Bulldog and the Mastiff, designed to guard large country houses and estates in England. Not shown until 1928, they are becoming surprisingly popular in view of their massive proportions. Very powerfully built, possessing great strength but never cumbersome, large square head with arched neck almost as large as head in circumference. Any shade of brindle, fawn or red." This very pretty unusual single original card was issued in 1936 in the UK by Hignetts and comes from a set entitled "Dogs".This single card has printed text on the reverse relating to the breed pictured.It measures 2.75 inches by 1.5 inches approx and is in very good condition,(it is difficult to find in this condition).The image and text are a little clearer than the scan shows them to be.The printed text on the reverse of this card reads as follows....."This is a breed originally created for guarding purposes by crossing Bulldogs with Mastiffs, and although such crossings took place as long as 70 years ago, it was not until 1924 that the breed was put on the Kennel Club Register. It appeared first as a show dog at Stoke in 1925, and is now fairly popular. Breeders found it difficult to fix the type and to retain soundness, but (thanks mainly to the efforts of the Staffordshire fanciers who created it) the Bull-Mastiff now breeds true, and is a sound, strong animal with inherent guarding instincts." This very pretty card depicting a Bullmastiff was produced but not put into packets of cigarettes around the 1955 period due to the imposition of a tax on packets containing cards.This card is taken from a series of 50 card entitled "Dog's Heads" by John Player and Sons of the United Kingdom.The illustrations are from drawings by Peter Biegel.There is printed text on the reverse relating to the breed.The card measures 2.75 inches by 1.5 inches approx.The image and the text are a little clearer than the scans shows them to be.It is in very good condition.The printed text on the reverse of this card reads as follows....."The Bull Mastiff was not recognised as a breed by the Kennel Club until 1925, but for centuries previously the cross of the Bulldog and the Mastiff had produced a definite type of dog. It is known that gamekeepers favoured the old type of Bull Mastiff as a companion on their nightly rounds. This was due no doubt to the dog's fierceness, alertness and ability to tackle poachers. The Bull Mastiff of today is a much purer breed and is, despite its formidable appearance, a very faithful and trustworthy animal. Its accepted colourings are fawn and brindle." This is a seldom seen single card on thin glossy paper depicting a Bullmastiff.It has printed text in French on the reverse relating to the breed.It measures 3 inches by just over 2 inches approx.Issued in France in 1975 as part of a series in a booklet entitled Histoire Naturelle "Chiens et Chats".It is in very good condition and the image is a little sharper than the scan shows it to be.  

Bullmastiff v.pretty original 1950's Dutch card. This very pretty original card was issued in the 1950's in Holland by the United Tobacco Agencies,(UTA). The card was actually printed on to the packet itself and had to be cut out from there. A special album was available and this card has been removed from one leaving some gum residue on the reverse.The card itself measures 2 inches by 3 inches approx. It is in very good condition ......the image and lettering are clearer than the scan shows them to be.

This very pretty original single UK card was issued in 1936 by Gallaher Ltd.It has printed text on the reverse relating to the breed.It measures 2.5 inches by 1.5 inches.It is in very good condition.....the actual image is clearer than the scan shows it to be.The printed text on the reverse of this card reads as follows....."Believed to have been known to the Assyrians before the Stone Age, the Mastiff is certainly one of the oldest breeds in the world and was brought to England by the Romans. It is somewhat similar to the Great Dane but has a heavier body and a thicker type of head. The Bull Mastiff appears to have been evolved by breeding the original Mastiff with a Bulldog in order to get stronger jaws, the dog being used for guarding and bull-baiting. The present type is faithful and intelligent, of a reddish-fawn colour with black ear tips and muzzle." Bullmastiff v.nice original 1972 Australian card. This very nice original card of a Bullmastiff was issued in Australia in 1972 by Golden Fleece as part of a 36 card set. The Bullmastiff pictured is named as Bulstaff Jellicoe. The front of the card shows a photographic picture of the dog and the back has a brief printed description of the breed. The card measures 2.25 inches by 3.5 inches. It is in very good condition and the image is a little clearer than the scan shows it to be.
