Dandie Dinmont Terrier original unusual 1936 UK card. This very pretty unusual single original card was issued in 1936 in the UK by Hignetts and comes from a set entitled "Dogs".This single card has printed text on the reverse relating to the breed pictured. It measures 2.75 inches by 1.5 inches approx and is in very good condition,(it is difficult to find in this condition). The image and text are a little clearer than the scan shows them to be.The printed text on the reverse of this card reads as follows....."This sporting breed is linked up with the romantic literature of the Scottish and English border, and is affectionately described by Sir Walter Scott in his "Guy Mannering". A similar type was kept by Piper Allan, who probably helped to make the Bedlington; the latter breed, as well as Border Terriers, has much in common with the Dandie. Some Scottish influence is shown by the breed's body formation, while its drop ears are usually regarded as a sign of English Terrier ancestry. The Dandie Club's show at Carlisle is the annual gathering place for all the old-time breeders." Please note our policy of FREE Shipping and Insurance worldwide on all orders of $10.00 and above.

Dandie Dinmont Terrier Cecil Aldin rare 1912 UK card. This is a very rare original single card from the 1912 set of 50 cards issued by Cope Brothers and Co. and illustrated by the famous artist Cecil Aldin. The set is entitled "Dogs of the World".This card is in very good condition which is most unusual for these. It measures 2.75 inches by 1.5 inches and has printed details relating to the breed and some brief details as to the artist Cecil Aldin on the reverse where he is decribed as the "most celebrated modern painter of horses and dogs".Some brief biographical details as to Cecil Aldin are as follows,(not printed on the back of the cards)....he was born in 1870 and died in 1935,a fairly prolific painter especially of dogs. The Irish Wolfhound image in this series is supposedly of his own dog "Mickie".A good few of the breeds illustrated were not common at all in Great Britain at that time,(the paintings would probably have been done around the 1910/1911 period). The printed text on the reverse of this card reads as follows....."This breed of Scottish Terriers is of some antiquity, but was first made famous by Sir Walter Scott in his novel of Guy Mannering. It is held in great estimation by lovers of the breed for its vermin killing powers, as well as for its intelligence and fidelity. Like other Scottish varieties, it is long-bodied, low-legged, large-headed. The colour must be either pepper or mustard. The coat a mixture of hard and soft hair." Click for more detail...

Dandie Dinmont Terrier unissued UK 1950's card. This very pretty single card depicting a Dandie Dinmont Terrier was produced but not put into packets of cigarettes around the 1955 period due to the imposition of a tax on packets containing cards. The paper the card was produced on has an onion skin type finish. This card is taken from a series of 50 card entitled "Dog's Heads" by John Player and Sons of the United Kingdom. The illustrations are from drawings by Peter Biegel. There is printed text on the reverse relating to the breed. The card measures 2.75 inches by 1.5 inches approx. The image and the text are a little clearer than the scans shows them to be.It is in very good condition. The printed text on the reverse of this card reads as follows....."Like the Bedlington Terrier, the Dandie Dinmont is a native of the Anglo-Scottish Border, and it owes its popularity, maybe its continued existence, to the publication of a book in 1814. Before that date the breed was known throughout the Border by a variety of names including the Mustard-and-Pepper Terrier (an adequate description of its colour and perhaps of its demeanour as well!), and its mention in "Guy Mannering" by Sir Walter Scott made it famous. The character Dandie Dinmont in the book was identified with a real-life Border farmer, who was subsequently nicknamed Dandie Dinmont, and his terriers were named after him". Dandie Dinmont Terrier v.pretty original 1936 UK card. This very pretty original single UK card was issued in 1936 by Gallaher Ltd.It has printed text on the reverse relating to the breed. It measures 2.5 inches by 1.5 inches. It is in very good condition.....the actual image is clearer than the scan shows it to be.The printed text on the reverse of this card reads as follows....."One authority states that the Dandie Dinmont Terrier was evolved from the Skye Terrier (see No. 3 of this series) and the similarity is certainly striking, though the Dandie is much smaller and there are differences in colouring and ear carriage. There is no doubt, however, that it originally came from Scotland where the dogs are sometimes used in packs for otter hunting. It is, like all other Terriers, a great hunter, and even the town-dweller never loses its love of the chase, as many a cat knows."
