Gordon Setter dog year 2000 label/stamp. This very pretty label/stamp was issued for East Timor in the year 2000,(even though it looks like a postage stamp,in that it has perforations, gum on the reverse etc),it is probably not one in that it was never designed to perform a postal duty.It also has a cancellation mark on it that was very probably applied at the printers. It measures 1 inch by 2 inches approx and is in very good condition. The image and text are clearer than the scan shows them to be. FREE Shipping and Insurance on all orders of $10.00 and above.

Click for more detail...

Gordon Setter dog original Arthur Wardle card. This very pretty single card was made ready by John Players to be issued but the onset of the 2nd World War meant it was not.The images are taken from originals by Arthur Wardle. It has a fair amount of printed text on the reverse relating to the breed. It is a card from the 25 card series entitled "Dogs".It measures 2.5 inches by 3.25 inches approx and is in very good condition. The image and the text are a little clearer than the scan shows them to be. The printed text on the reverse of this card reads as follows....."Whether accident or design produced the Gordon Setter no one can say. Some attribute the origin to an accidental mating between a black-and-tan Collie and one of the Duke of Gordon's tricolour Setters, others to an Irish Setter and black Pointer cross and the introduction of Bloodhound blood.Whatever produced them, they were bred and fostered at Gordon Castle in the early part of last century and were used entirely as gundogs until late in the same century, when they were first exhibited. Of Scottish origin, the Gordon has not rivalled its Irish and Englísh kin in popularity, probably because its breeders were shooting men who were content to breed dogs merely for their own use. Even to-day the variety is in very few hands in this country. Scandinavian sportsmen, however, are very fond of it, and possess some of the finest Gordon Setters in the world."Please note our policy of FREE Shipping and Insurance worldwide on all orders of $10.00 and above.

Click for more detail...

Gordon Setter dog original unusual 1936 UK card. This very pretty unusual single original card was issued in 1936 in the UK by Hignetts and comes from a set entitled "Dogs".This single card has printed text on the reverse relating to the breed pictured. It measures 2.75 inches by 1.5 inches approx and is in very good condition,(it is difficult to find in this condition). The image and text are a little clearer than the scan shows them to be.The printed text on the reverse of this card reads as follows....."The Gordon is thought to be indigenous to Scotland, and took its name from the Duke of Richmond and Gordon, who had a large kennel at Gordon Castle early in the last century. Its exact origin is unknown, but probably Irish Setters, black Field spaniels, and Pointers helped its evolution in the early days. There is, however, one theory that an accidental mating between a black-and-tan Collie and a tricolour Setter produced it. Though this variety is not very popular in England, it is more widely kept in Scotland, and is highly regarded in some Scandivavian countries." Click for more detail...

Gordon Setter unusual unissued UK 1950's card. This very pretty single card depicting a Gordon Setter was produced but not put into packets of cigarettes around the 1955 period due to the imposition of a tax on packets containing cards. The paper the card was produced on has an onion skin type finish. This card is taken from a series of 50 card entitled "Dog's Heads" by John Player and Sons of the United Kingdom. The illustrations are from drawings by Peter Biegel. There is printed text on the reverse relating to the breed. The card measures 2.75 inches by 1.5 inches approx. The image and the text are a little clearer than the scan shows them to be.It is in very good condition. The printed text on the reverse of this card reads as follows....."The Gordon Setter is a native of Scotland. It was known as the Black and Tan Setter long before the Fourth Duke of Gordon developed and gave his name to the breed in the early 19th century. As befitting the rough nature of the grouse moors over which it works, the Gordon Setter is of heavier build that its English and Irish counterparts, yet it is held to be equally fast and energetic. At the first British Open Dog Show at Newcastle in 1859, a Gordon Setter was the a first prize-winner; nowadays comparatively few of the breed are exhibited. Its colour, as its original name implies, should be black with rich chestnut markings." Please note our policy of FREE Shipping and Insurance worldwide on all orders of $10.00 and above.
