This very pretty single original card,(on thin paper),was issued in Germany by the Austria Tobacco Co. in 1952 and is from a set of 150 cards entitled "Kamerad Hund" "(Our Friend the Dog)". A special album was available at the time for these cards to be stuck into for display and unusually for these this card has not been stuck into an album at all.This card is from the first grouping of 25 cards and is more difficult to find than others in this series. The front of the card shows an artist drawn picture and the back has a brief description of the breed in German. It measures 4.5 inches by 3.5 inches approx and is in very good condition. Great Dane Boarhound year 2000 label/stamp. This very pretty label/stamp was issued for East Timor in the year 2000,(even though it looks like a postage stamp,in that it has perforations,gum on the reverse etc),it is probably not one in that it was never designed to perform a postal duty.It also has a cancellation mark on it that was very probably applied at the printers.It measures 1 inch by 2 inches approx and is in very good condition. This single playing card was issued in England in 1997 by Heritage Toy Ltd and was part of their playing card set entitled "The Famous Dogs of the World".It was illustrated by John Denaro.It measures 3.5 inches by 2.25 inches approx.It is in very good condition.The text and the image are a little clearer than the scan shows them to be.  

Great Dane dog year 2004 game card. This very nice single card is taken from a set issued by the AKC,(American Kennel Club) in 2004.It has printed text on the front that states the country of origin and the group that the dog belongs to ie....Terriers,Toys etc.It measures 3 inches by 4.5 inches.It is in very good condition.The back of the card has the AKC logo printed on it.The text and the image are clearer/sharper than the scan shows them to be.  

Great Dane dog original 1961 UK trade card. This very nice single card was issued in England in 1961 by Hornimans Tea and is part of their 48 card series entitled "Dogs".It has printed text on the reverse relating to the breed.It measures 2.75 inches by 1.5 inches approx and is in very good condition although it does have some printing offset on the reverse which does not interfere with the legibility of the text.The printed text on the reverse of this card reads as follows....."Not Connected with Denmark, having been developed in Germany as a giant dog with a heavy head for hunting and fighting purposes, principally for use against wild boar. Probably over 400 years old and originally descended from ancient Asian Mastiff. Although very beautiful in outline, a "pretty" dog is not enough. He must have size, weight, nobility, courage, speed and endurance. Stands 30" high at shoulders and weighs 120 lbs." This unusual European card was issued in the 1960's as part of a 80 card series.It does not have text on the reverse relating to the breed apart from the dog breed in 2 or 3 languages.It measures 2.75 inches by 2 inches approx and is in very good condition.The image is a little clearer than the scan shows it to be.

This very pretty unusual single original card was issued in 1936 in the UK by Hignetts and comes from a set entitled "Dogs".This single card has printed text on the reverse relating to the breed pictured.It measures 2.75 inches by 1.5 inches approx and is in very good condition,(it is difficult to find in this condition).The image and text are a little clearer than the scan shows them to be.The printed text on the reverse of this card reads as follows....."This breed, known as the Boarhound when first imported into this country from Germany, has a great sporting reputation in the latter country, though in this country it has never been anything but a show and guard dog. It is highly intelligent, and a group of Mr. Gordon Stewart's "Send" Great Danes have given marvellous displays of obedience and initiative at various shows. A Great Dane owned by H.R.H. the Duke of Kent came from this kennel. Mr. J. V. Rank, of racing and coursing fame, is another enthusiast for the breed." Harlequin Great Dane rare Cecil Aldin 1912 UK card. This is a very rare original single card from the 1912 set of 50 cards issued by Cope Brothers and Co. and illustrated by the famous artist Cecil Aldin.The image and the text are a little clearer than the scan shows them to be.The set is entitled "Dogs of the World".This card is in very good condition which is most unusual for these.It measures 2.75 inches by 1.5 inches and has printed details relating to the breed and some brief details as to the artist Cecil Aldin on the reverse where he is decribed as the "most celebrated modern painter of horses and dogs".Some brief biographical details as to Cecil Aldin are as follows,(not printed on the back of the cards)....he was born in 1870 and died in 1935,a fairly prolific painter especially of dogs.The Irish Wolfhound image in this series is supposedly of his own dog "Mickie".A good few of the breeds illustrated were not common at all in Great Britain at that time,(the paintings would probably have been done around the 1910/1911 period).The printed text on the reverse of this card reads as follows....."The Great Dane originally came from Germany where it was formerly used for attacking wild beasts. Its present use is chiefly as a companion and guard.In Germany it is largely employed as a farm dog,while scarcely a German palace or castle is without one or more of these imposing animals. The coat should be short,dense, and smooth. Colour either brindle or whole colour, or as in the illustration,spotted (Harlequin) on a white body." This very pretty single card was issued in 1934 by Gallaher's as part of their series of 24 cards entitled "Dogs".The reverse has printed text mainly concerning the breed with a few words regarding the dog pictured which is Champion Alert of Send.The card measures 2.5 inches by 3.25 inches approx.It is in very good condition although it has at some point been corner mounted in an album and the residual pressure marks can just be made out and there is some light printing offset on the reverse which in no way affects the legibility of the text.The image and the text are a little clearer than the scans shows them to be.The printed text on the reverse of this card reads as follows....."The Great Dane has every right to be considered a British breed, for it is certain that for over two hundred years this very active and powerful dog, with the temperament of a terrier, always alert and intelligent, has been kept and bred in England. That at one time its home was in Denmark may be gathered from the name, which is also applied to the breed in Germany and France, where they were used for hunting the boar. As far back as in 1650 research shows that this breed and its crosses were used for drawing carts in the English streets." Harlequin Great Dane dog original unusual 1930's card. This very pretty original hard to find trade card was issued in Europe in the 1930’s.The image was used by a few different firms. This card was meant to be stuck into an album which was available at the time but this card is unusual in that it has never been so used.....it has printed text in Dutch on the reverse. It measures 3.25 inches by 2 inches approx. It is in good condition although the blue logo ink can be just be seen on the front of the card.......please see the scan.The image and the lettering are a little clearer than the scan shows them to be.

Great Dane v.pretty European cigar band. This very pretty cigar band with the image of a Great Dane was issued by Murillo in Europe in the last few years.It is more detailed than the scan shows it to be.It measures 2.75 inches by 1.25 inches approx.It is in very good condition and has a plain back.Cigar bands are a large collecting field with many manufacturers producing sets of various topics.....we have a fair selection of cigar bands featuring dogs which we hope to list over the coming weeks/months.
 

Great Dane UK unusual transparency. Blue Cap Cheese issued this Great Dane transparency,(which is similar to an unmounted film slide),in the UK in 1952.It was given free with purchases.It is 1.5 inches by 1.5 inches approx.The image and the text are a little clearer/sharper than the scan shows them to be.It is not an easy or common item to find.It is in very good condition....as is normal with these the solid blue border has some light scratching.  

Great Dane v.nice 1923 chocolate card. This is a very nicely detailed image of a pair of Great Danes.This thin paper card was issued by Peter Cailler,Kohler and Nestle in 1923. The set this is taken from is entitled "Chiens de Garde".The back is blank. It was given free with purchases of chocolate.A special album was available for these cards to be mounted in....this card has never been so mounted.It measures 2.25 inches by 1.75 inches approx.It is in very good condition although it does have a small mark in the left margin.....please see the scan.The image and the lettering are a little clearer than the scan shows them to be.  

Harlequin Great Dane unusual 1950's French card. This is an unusual,seldom seen,thin paper card issued in the 1950's by Honig Foods in France.It depicts a Harlequin Great Dane.It has printed text on the reverse in French listing the types of products made by Honig's and also the name of the breed and a number.It measures 3 inches by 2.25 inches approx.It is in very good condition but as is normal for these,(because of the thin paper) there is some creasing/bending on the card which can mainly be seen when the card is held at an angle to the light.The image is a little clearer than the scans shows it to be.

This very pretty single card depicting a Great Dane was produced but not put into packets of cigarettes around the 1955 period due to the imposition of a tax on packets containing cards.The paper the card was produced on has an onion skin type finish.This card is taken from a series of 50 card entitled "Dog's Heads" by John Player and Sons of the United Kingdom.The illustrations are from drawings by Peter Biegel.There is printed text on the reverse relating to the breed.The card measures 2.75 inches by 1.5 inches approx.The image and the text are a little clearer than the scan shows them to be.It is in very good condition.The printed text on the reverse of this card reads as follows....."The origin of the Great Dane is obscure, but it is apparent that during its evolution in Central Europe a variety of breeds was involved. A strongly-built dog of majestic and elegant appearance, and possessed of considerable intelligence, it is one of the most popular of the larger breeds. In temperament the Great Dane varies. Kept locked up and short of exercise it becomes sullen and ill-tempered. Exercised freely and kept unchained it is one of the most faithful and amiable of all house-dogs.
