This very pretty single original card,(on thin paper),was issued in Germany by the Austria Tobacco Co. in 1952 and is from a set of 150 cards entitled "Kamerad Hund" "(Our Friend the Dog)". A special album was available at the time for these cards to be stuck into for display and unusually for these this card has not been stuck into an album at all. The front of the card shows an artist drawn picture and the back has a brief description of the breed in German. It measures 4.5 inches by 3.5 inches approx and is in very good condition. Greyhound year 2000 label/stamp. This very pretty label/stamp was issued for East Timor in the year 2000,(even though it looks like a postage stamp,in that it has perforations,gum on the reverse etc),it is probably not one in that it was never designed to perform a postal duty.It also has a cancellation mark on it that was very probably applied at the printers.It measures 1 inch by 2 inches approx and is in very good condition. Greyhound year 2002 Benin pretty label/stamp. This very pretty label/stamp was issued for the Republic of Benin in 2002.It has gum on the reverse leading us to believe that it has not performed a postal function.It is 2 inches by 1.5 inches approx.It is in very good condition. The image and the text are a little clearer than the scan shows them to be.  

Greyhound UK single 1997 playing card. This single playing card was issued in England in 1997 by Heritage Toy Ltd and was part of their playing card set entitled "The Famous Dogs of the World".It was illustrated by John Denaro.It measures 3.5 inches by 2.25 inches approx.It is in very good condition.The text and the image are a little clearer than the scan shows them to be.  

Greyhound dog year 2004 game card. This very nice single card is taken from a set issued by the AKC,(American Kennel Club) in 2004.It has printed text on the front that states the country of origin and the group that the dog belongs to ie....Terriers,Toys etc.It measures 3 inches by 4.5 inches.It is in very good condition.The back of the card has the AKC logo printed on it.The text and the image are clearer/sharper than the scan shows them to be.  

Greyhound dog original Arthur Wardle card. This very pretty single card was made ready by John Players to be issued but the onset of the 2nd World War meant it was not.The images are taken from originals by Arthur Wardle.It has a fair amount of printed text on the reverse relating to the breed.It is a card from the 25 card series entitled "Dogs".It measures 2.5 inches by 3.25 inches approx and is in very good condition although it is a little grubby on the reverse which does not interefere with the legibility of the text. The image and the text are a little clearer than the scan shows them to be.The printed text on the reverse of this card reads as follows....."Many authorities assert that dogs of the Greyhound type are those from which all breeds originated.Sculptures and drawings of Greyhounds are found in the art of Ancient Assyria, Egypt and Greece, and early writings reveal that they were highly regarded as hunting dogs. They belong to the breeds that hunt by sight. In this country coursing as a sport with Greyhounds became popular in the days of Queen Elizabeth and has persisted ever since. Track racing is a modern modified form of coursing but does not demand the same skill from the dog, speed being the chief requisite.Slight differences in construction are apparent between the coursing and racing dogs and show Greyhounds; the last are usually more refined and graceful, being bred almost entirely for appearance. This very pretty unusual single original card was issued in 1936 in the UK by Hignetts and comes from a set entitled "Dogs".This single card has printed text on the reverse relating to the breed pictured.It measures 2.75 inches by 1.5 inches approx and is in very good condition,(it is difficult to find in this condition).The image and text are a little clearer than the scan shows them to be.The printed text on the reverse of this card reads as follows....."This is a very old breed, sculptures of similar dogs having been made in ancient Egypt. From the earliest times it has been the coursing dog in Britian. The Greyhound hunts by sight, not by smell. Showing does not appear to have spoiled the breed for sport, though many authorities contend that a working Greyhound becomes too muscular for exhibition purposes. Coursing clubs in various parts of the country work the breed in natural conditions, as in the annual contest for the Waterloo Cup in February at Altcar." Greyhound Cecil Aldin rare 1912 UK card. This is a very rare original single card from the 1912 set of 50 cards issued by Cope Brothers and Co. and illustrated by the famous artist Cecil Aldin.The set is entitled "Dogs of the World".This card is in very good condition which is most unusual for these.It measures 2.75 inches by 1.5 inches and has printed details relating to the breed and some brief details as to the artist Cecil Aldin on the reverse where he is decribed as the "most celebrated modern painter of horses and dogs".Some brief biographical details as to Cecil Aldin are as follows,(not printed on the back of the cards)....he was born in 1870 and died in 1935,a fairly prolific painter especially of dogs.The Irish Wolfhound image in this series is supposedly of his own dog "Mickie".A good few of the breeds illustrated were not common at all in Great Britain at that time,(the paintings would probably have been done around the 1910/1911 period).The printed text on the reverse of this card reads as follows....."Of all the existing breeds of dogs, the Greyhound is certainly the most ancient, while of all dogs hunting by keenness of sight and fleetness of foot, it is pre-eminent. It is used chiefly in coursing, a use to which it has been put from time immemorial. It has a fine, thich and close coat. Its colour varies, and may be black, brindle-red, fawn, blue, slate, or any of these colours mixed with white." This very pretty single card was issued in 1934 by Gallaher's as part of their series of 24 cards entitled "Dogs".The reverse has printed text mainly concerning the breed with a few words regarding the dog pictured which is Wild Woolley.The card measures 2.5 inches by 3.25 inches approx.It is in very good condition although it has at some point been corner mounted in an album and the residual pressure marks can just be made out.The image and the text are a little clearer than the scans shows them to be.The printed text on the reverse of this card reads as follows....."It has been claimed, with good reason, that the Greyhound is the oldest pure-bred dog in the world, and although undoubtedly Greyhounds have been crossed at various times with the object of adding characters considered of value, the breed to-day bears a strong resemblance to the Greyhound kept in Ancient Greece, and to the type kept in Early Egyptian times by the Pharaohs. The illustration is of Wild Woolley, one of the finest track Greyhounds of the present age. Among his wins are the Greyhound Derby, 1932. This card was meant to be stuck into an album which was available at the time but this card is unusual in that it has never been so used.....it has printed text in Dutch on the reverse. Racing Greyhound v.pretty original European sticker. This very pretty thin paper single original card/sticker was issued by Service Line in Italy in the early 1990's as part of their set of cards entitled "Dogs and Cats".It has a peel off paper back which leaves adhesive on the card for it to be stuck into an album which was available at the time.This card/sticker has never been in an album and the backing paper is still attached.It measures 2.75 inches by 2 inches approx and is in very good condition.The image is a little clearer than the scan shows it to be.  

Greyhound dog 1937 UK card. This very pretty card showing a Greyhound was issued in the U.K. by W.D and H.O. Wills in 1937 as part of a 50 card series entitled "Dogs".The image is taken from a painting by Arthur Wardle a very well known and respected artist of dogs.It has gum on the reverse that was meant to be used to adhere the card into a special album which was available for purchase from the manufacturers.....this card was never stuck in the album.There is printed text relating to the breed on the reverse.The card measures 2.75 inches by 1.5 inches approx.It is in very good condition.The image and text are a little clearer than the scan shows them to be.  

Greyhound dog original 1950's Dutch card. This very pretty original card was issued in the 1950's in Holland by the United Tobacco Agencies,(UTA). The card was actually printed on to the packet itself and had to be cut out from there. A special album was available and this card has been removed from one such album by cutting around the frame on the page leaving the name of the breed readable. The card itself measures 2 inches by 3 inches approx. It is in very good condition,(the image and lettering are clearer than the scans shows them to be).  

Greyhound rare 1953 UK pretty card. This is a very rare single card which was issued in the UK by Frederick Warne & Co. in 1953.This card is from a set of 32 cards entitled "Warne's OBSERVER'S PICTURE CARDS" "IV DOGS".The image is taken from a painting by B.Butler. The back of the card has a fair amount of printed details relating to the breed.It measures 4.5 inches by 2.5 inches approx.It is in very good condition although there is some faint sunlight fading/yellowing to the right edge which does not in any way interfere with either the image or text.The image is a little clearer than the scan shows it to be.....the cross hatching behind the dog is a product of the scanner and is not on the card.The printed text on the reverse of this card reads as follows....."The Greyhound was used as a coursing dog in Egypt nearly five thousand years ago, and has been used similarly ever since in every sporting and hunting country. It was certainly in Britain over a thousand years ago. The famous Waterloo fixture began in 1836, and a Stud Book for Greyhounds has been kept since 1882. The breed is losing its characteristic charm through exploitation on the racing tracks, but most of the show-type Greyhounds are still good companions. Height 26-27 inches. Weight 65 lbs. This very pretty original postcard has not been postally used and was issued in Germany in the 1980's we believe.It measures 5.75 inches by 4 inches approx.It is in good to very good condition as the corners and edges are a little knocked,the bottom right corner is creased and it is a little grubby on the reverse.......please see the scan.The image is a little clearer than the scan shows it to be.  

Champion Greyhound original 1934 UK card. This original Greyhound cigarette card was issued in 1934 by Ardath Tobacco Co.Ltd in the United Kingdom.....it is a very interesting card as not only does it show an image of the Champion Barmaid which was owned by Mr and Mrs Marchetti,it also has a line drawing of the breed on the reverse with details as to what the breed standard was at that time! It is from a set of 25 cards entitled "Champion Dogs".The card measures 3.75 inches by 2.5 inches.It is in fair to good condition as it has some light corner and edge knocking and some light marks on the reverse and some surface roughness.The image is a little clearer than the scan shows it to be.A detailed scan of the reverse will be gladly sent on request.  

Greyhound v.nice original 1957 UK card. This original single card, with the image of a Greyhound, was issued in England in 1957 as part of a 24 card series entitled "I Spy Dogs" by Priory Tea.
