Afghan Hound dog original 1952 German card. This very pretty single original card,(on thin paper),was issued in Germany by the Austria Tobacco Co. in 1952 and is from a set of 150 cards entitled "Kamerad Hund" "(Our Friend the Dog)". A special album was available at the time for these cards to be stuck into for display and unusually for these this card has not been stuck into an album at all. The front of the card shows an artist drawn picture and the back has a brief description of the breed in German. It measures 4.5 inches by 3.5 inches approx and is in very good condition. Afghan Hound dog year 2000 label/stamp. This very pretty label/stamp was issued for East Timor in the year 2000,(even though it looks like a postage stamp,in that it has perforations,gum on the reverse etc),it is probably not one in that it was never designed to perform a postal duty.It also has a cancellation mark on it that was very probably applied at the printers.It measures 1 inch by 2 inches approx and is in very good condition. Afghan Hound original single playing card. This very pretty single playing card was recently issued in China. This single playing card measures 4.75 inches by 3.5 inches approx. It is in very good condition although it does have some small areas of surface disturbance which can mainly be seen when the card is held at angle to the light.....please see the scan. This very pretty label/stamp was issued for the Republic of Benin in 2002.It has gum on the reverse leading us to believe that it has not performed a postal function.It is 2 inches by 1.5 inches approx.It is in very good condition. This very nice single card is taken from a set issued by the AKC,(American Kennel Club) in 2004.It has printed text on the front that states the country of origin and the group that the dog belongs to ie....Terriers,Toys etc.It measures 3 inches by 4.5 inches.It is in very good condition.The back of the card has the AKC logo printed on it.The text and the image are clearer/sharper than the scan shows them to be.

This very nice single card was issued in England in 1961 by Hornimans Tea and is part of their 48 card series entitled "Dogs".It has printed text on the reverse relating to the breed.It measures 2.75 inches by 1.5 inches approx and is in very good condition.The printed text on the reverse of this card reads as follows....."This hound has been a native of Afghanistan since 2000 B.C. and is said to be one of the dogs that Noah collected in the Ark. It was very hard for foreigners to procure these hunting dogs and not until 1907 were they introduced to Britain. In appearance they are unusual, having a long silky coat with a short saddle on their backs. The thin tail tapers to a distinctive ring." Afghan Hound v.pretty original European sticker. This very pretty thin paper single original card/sticker was issued by Service Line in Italy in the early 1990's as part of their set of cards entitled "Dogs and Cats".It has a peel off paper back which leaves adhesive on the card for it to be stuck into an album which was available at the time.This card/sticker has never been in an album and the backing paper is still attached.It measures 2.75 inches by 2 inches approx and is in very good condition.The image is a little clearer than the scan shows it to be.

This very pretty single card depicting an Afghan Hound was produced but not put into packets of cigarettes around the 1955 period due to the imposition of a tax on packets containing cards.The paper the card was produced on has an onion skin type finish.This card is taken from a series of 50 card entitled "Dog's Heads" by John Player and Sons of the United Kingdom.The illustrations are from drawings by Peter Biegel.The card measures 2.75 inches by 1.5 inches approx.The image and the text are a little clearer than the scan shows them to be.It is in very good condition. The printed text on the reverse of this card reads as follows....."In its native country, and along the North West Frontier of India (now northern Pakistan), the Afghan Hound has been used for deer and leopard hunting for thousands of years. Comparison of the dog as we know it today with the illustrations of it in the rock carvings at Balkh, Afghanistan (dating from about 2200 B.C.) reveals that the breed has not changed appreciably over the intervening centuries. The Afghan is a powerful long-limbed hound and, because of its natural hunting instincts, requires very little training in its own country. It was first exhibited in England in 1907. Afghan Hound unusual 1975 French card. This is a seldom seen single card on thin glossy paper depicting an Afghan Hound.It has printed text in French on the reverse relating to the breed.It measures 3 inches by just over 2 inches approx.Issued in France in 1975 as part of a series in a booklet entitled Histoire Naturelle "Chiens et Chats".It is in very good condition although it does have some light speckling on the front of the card......please see the scan.The image is a little sharper than the scan shows it to be.  

Afghan Hound v.pretty original 1950's Dutch card. This very pretty original card was issued in the 1950's in Holland by the United Tobacco Agencies,(UTA). The card was actually printed on to the packet itself and had to be cut out from there. A special album was available and this card has been removed from one such album by cutting around the frame on the page leaving the name of the breed readable. The card itself measures 2 inches by 3 inches approx. It is in very good condition although there is a light crease in the top margin to the right of the card....the image and lettering are clearer than the scan shows them to be.  

Afghan Hound unusual shaped single playing card. This very pretty single playing card was recently produced in the last few years........any roughness at the edge of the card is a product of the scanner and not on the card itself.It is 5 inches tall and 2.25 inches approx at its widest.It is in very good condition.......the actual image is little clearer than the scan shows it to be.  

Afghan Hound single original 1988 trade card. This very pretty single card was issued in 1988 by ACE cards in France as one of their 33 card set entitled "The World of Dogs". It has a fair amount of printed text on the front relating to the breed and the back has multiple ACE logos as its design. It is fairly large as it measures 5.75 inches by 3.5 inches approx.The image is a lot clearer than the scan shows it to be and the text is perfectly readable and clear.It is in very good condition, although as with all of these cards it has a small amount of light surface disturbance which in no way intereferes with the clarity of the image or text.....please see the scan.

Afghan Hound rare 1953 UK pretty card. This is a very rare single card which was issued in the UK by Frederick Warne & Co. in 1953.This card is from a set of 32 cards entitled "Warne's OBSERVER'S PICTURE CARDS" "IV DOGS".The image is taken from a painting by B.Butler. The back of the card has a fair amount of printed details relating to the breed.It measures 4.5 inches by 2.5 inches approx.It is in good to very good condition although there is some faint sunlight fading/yellowing to the right edge which does not in any way interfere with either the image or text,there is some creasing in the bottom margin and some light surface speckling.....please see the scan.The image is a little clearer than the scan shows it to be.....the cross hatching behind the dog is a product of the scanner and is not on the card.The printed text on the reverse of this card reads as follows....."Early art in Afghanistan has portayed this breed of dog so faithfully that it appears to have remained unchanged for about four thousand years. Of the Greyhound group, the Afghan Hound has been used mainly as a hunting dog and guard, for both of which purposes it is still excellent. Its robust build and fascinating clothing of long silken hair make it a breed with many admirers. It has been in Britain for nearly half a century. Height 27-29 inches. Weight 60-66 lb. Popular colours are red, cream, fawn and golden. Coat short on the back but long elsewhere with silken topknot and trousers." This very pretty original single UK card was issued in 1938 by Gallaher Ltd as part of their 48 card series entitled "Dogs" "Second Series of 48".It has printed text on the reverse relating to the breed.It measures 2.5 inches by 1.5 inches.It is in very good condition.....the actual image is clearer than the scan shows it to be.The printed text on the reverse reads as follows...."The Afghan Hound is a dog which has size without very much dignity. The hair is smooth on the face and along the back, but gives way to very long, straggling hair over the other parts, giving him almost a trousered appearance. His expression is described as 'distant.' He walks with a springy step, bearing his head and curly tail high. The Afghan Hound usually stands just under thirty inches at the shoulder, and may be any colour."

The Afghan Hound pictured is named as Aust.Ch.Chandari of Kazah. The front of the card shows a photographic picture of the dog and the back has a brief printed description of the breed. The card measures 2.25 inches by 3.5 inches. It is in very good condition although there is some light surface scratching which can be mainly seen when the card is held at an angle to the light. The image is a little clearer than the scan shows it to be.
