| This is a very interesting and intriguing antique Victorian, Primitive, late 19th century landscape oil painting on board. The painting is signed by the artist at the base of the tree in the foreground, "Hoffe 89". The signature is blended into the landscape and is somewhat hard to read. Also, in the foreground is a woman about to cross over a wooden bridge. Behind her, there is a beautiful, lighted cottage. Interesting details such as a cross on the roof of the little cottage, wonderful wintry trees, and lush landscape. Looking closely, you can see a woman walking out the door of the cottage. Nice depth and colors. Intricate details throughout. The allure of the little cottage draws you in to the enchanting wintry scene. This oil painting is in excellent original condition. The ornate frame is very complimentary and original to the painting. It is wood with elaborate floral decorated gesso. The frame retains the original gold finish and has a fine, old patina. The frame has a couple small chips on the outer edge on the right side. Old wire hanger. Circa late 19th century. |
