Antique Bible printed in Philadelphia. All in German, comprising the Old Testament, Apocrypha, and New Testament.

This volume does not indicate the year of its publication, however similar 992 page publications of Die Heilige Schrift Alten Und Neuen Testaments published in Germantown, PA, have been cited as being from the year 1763. For that reason, I am designating this Bible to be a circa 18th. century publication. The family register references the year 1814, indicating it would be at the least an early 19th. century volume, if not late 18th. century. The city of Philadelphia is indicated in the inside title page as the place of its publication.

This volume stands near 12" tall by 9 1/4" wide by 3 1/4" thick. It is remarkably intact for its age.

The front cover is partly loose from the binding, and as indicated in the accompanying photos, there is foxing and and staining throughout in places. Pages 571 and 575 are torn in the center.

With all the visible wear and signs of age, it is otherwise solidly intact. Back cover appears tight and secure, and pages are entirely readable.

A worthy, well preserved addition to the library of any collector.

Pages readable and intact with light tanning. Previous owner handwritten inscription inside front cover.

Some wear to binding inside front cover. Title on spine worn away. Covers solidly intact.

Den Hellige Skrift bible, antique Scandivian 1800's. Norwegian or Swedish, judging from the volume title "Den Hellige Skrift" which translates as "The Holy Script" or "The Holy Scriptures" in Norwegian and Swedish, which are very similar languages.

A massive, remarkably intact volume for its age ( exact year uncertain, but from mid to late 1800's).

An item of rich personal significance for our senior pastor who is a full blooded Viking from his father’s and mother’s lineage, his father’s name being Leif Stanley Heggelund, and his mother’s name being Florence Wilhelmina Anderson Johnson. His lineage has even been recorded to circa 500 a.d., his very great ancestor serving as mayor in Denmark. His relatives to his father’s side date back to the great sagas of the Vikings, Leif Erickson, the great frontier discoverers of Iceland, Greenland, and Vinland (North America.

Antique Family Bible 1882 from Oil City, PA. Leather. Wonderful piece of history and genealogy. Not to mention the religious aspect of this large old family bible. Leather bond though the binding will be in need of repair. Front cover is loose from the book as is the binding leather and first color page verse. Page edges are gilt with an impressed design. Old and New testaments. Published by William T Amies 1882. Lots of art work and pictures.
