"Biblia Das Ist: Die Heilige Schrift Altes Und Neues Testaments, Nach Der Deutschen Uebersetzung D. Martin Luther"
Antique Bible printed in Philadelphia. All in German, comprising the Old Testament, Apocrypha, and New Testament.
This volume does not indicate the year of its publication, however similar 992 page publications of Die Heilige Schrift Alten Und Neuen Testaments published in Germantown, PA, have been cited as being from the year 1763. For that reason, I am designating this Bible to be a circa 18th. century publication. The family register references the year 1814, indicating it would be at the least an early 19th. century volume, if not late 18th. century. The city of Philadelphia is indicated in the inside title page as the place of its publication.
This volume stands near 12" tall by 9 1/4" wide by 3 1/4" thick. It is remarkably intact for its age.
The front cover is partly loose from the binding, and as indicated in the accompanying photos, there is foxing and and staining throughout in places. Pages 571 and 575 are torn in the center.
With all the visible wear and signs of age, it is otherwise solidly intact. Back cover appears tight and secure, and pages are entirely readable.
A worthy, well preserved addition to the library of any collector.
