This radio has been totally repaired and is functioning great! The electronics have been serviced, the light replaced in the dial, the cloth replaced on the speaker front and a new electrical cord has been installed.
You will really enjoy the old times with this collector item. It picks up lots of stations with its built-in antenna inside the back cover. The electrical cord wraps around a circle mount inside the rear cover. This portable unit also worked with special batteries (hard to find these days), and the battery plugs are intact and the AC/Battery switch on the back of the electronics is working.
This is the old style tube type radio. You have to let the tubes warm up for about 15 to 20 seconds before the radio comes alive. The front cover has a latch like a brief case and when folded up and latched, the unit looks a lot like an old suitcase. The exterior of the radio is in excellent condition as shown in the photos.
This Airline brand Model 04WG-668 was made for Montgomery Wards as Airline was their radio brand name. This radio comes with a printout of the electrical schematics of all the electronic parts so if it should ever need repair, you can give the repairman the schematics for easy problem resolution.
This radio is unique in that the AM dial is backwards with the small numbered station being on the right and the large number station (1600) being on the left. This radio was made before the standardization practices for dial presentation became reality. What a find!
This radio measures approximately 11 inches tall (including handle) by 14 inches wide and 7.5 inches deep. |
