Reuge music box company of Switzerland is famous for extremely high quality music boxes. They made some very elaborate and expensive music boxes and also made some very high quality cases to enclose their music players inside of.
This box is one of those high quality machines. The case itself is a pure walnut case with a sheet of glass covering the brass music player. The glass can be removed for cleaning by lifting out one removable end of the wood trim surrounding the glass. The glass can then be slid out, cleaned and reinserted.
The front of the case includes a button to turn the music player on and off. The bottom of the case is where the winding key is that is used to wind the mainspring to operate the music player.
This particular music box plays TWO TUNES which is unusual for most music boxes but not too unusual for this high-end and high quality Reuge music boxes. Some of them can play up to 4 different tunes--all on the same roller music player. The large roller is designed to shift back and forth, left to right and right to left when it changes to a different tune. All of that is automatic, all you have to do is wind the key and turn it on.
The tunes this player sounds is EDELWEISS by Richard Rogers and LARA'S THEME by Maurice Jarre. There is a notation in the bottom right corner of the label shown in the photos that says 2/36 which means this player will play 2 tunes on 36 teeth (note bars on the music box). Most music boxes are 18 teeth so you can tell how much quality of sound and the beauty of the tunes by all the note teeth this machine is using. There are some expensive Reuge music boxes with 4/50 which means they play 4 tunes on 50 teeth.
