MC1004
VINTAGE PLAID UMBRELLA This is a wonderful vintage plaid umbrella most likely produced around the 1930’s to the 1940’s. I found this while caught in a rainstorm. The very elderly lady who sold this to me said she couldn’t remember how long she had it, but said it was years and years.

The tab inside says: Rayon 100%, it also has a small tag with the number 11 on it.
Rayon fabric was invented in 1910, and was called the artificial silk. The colors of this umbrella are shades of pale orange, peach, black and white.

There is a red piece of plastic material on the inside top protecting the area of the spire where the ribs come together. The thumb push also has the same material wrapped around it to protect your fingers when opening.
This umbrella has 10 metal ribs, and it opens smoothly and easily.

The handle is black painted wood 5 7/8" long, and this is screwed into the Lucite handle. The easy grip, Lucite handle is colored red on the outside, with a strip of clear Lucite going though the center. The screw holding this handle together is clearly visible through the clear Lucite.

When closed the umbrella has a wrap around red metal snap to keep the material tight. It also comes with a matching sheath protector in the same material as the umbrella. The sheath also has a matching snap closure on it.

It is a nice sized umbrella. It is 31 ½" long from the tip of the spire to the bend in the handle. The metal, spire is 3 ½" long. Opened, the umbrella itself is 34" wide.

When held to the light, I see one small area where it looks like the threads have been rubbed or pulled. This is not worn completely through the material yet. The material on the tip of the sheath ring has pulled out of the ring on one side. The seam at the bottom of the sheath has come slightly undone, and could use a few stitches. It also could use and over all cleaning too, but it is not too bad.

This is still a highly useable umbrella, or a wonderful accessory for your vintage collection.
