Flameware (Top of Stove) original pieces & handles, saucepans, coffee pots, teapots, tea kettles, double boilers, it's all here. These pieces were designed for top of stove cooking. Introduced in 1936, pieces had a bluish cast until about 1945 when the glass formula was changed. Originally just a 7" skillet and 1 and 1-1/2 quart sauce pans were available. Double boilers were introduced in 1937, a 2 quart saucepan in 1946 and the "American Hostess" Teapot in 1943. 4, 6, & 9 cup coffeepots (percolators), egg poachers and an 8" two handled skillet were also introduced.

The original pieces utilized a detachabe handle of which there were several designs. Units with detachable handles could go from stove to table. Later pieces were made with metal banding and handle that removed with a spring loaded clip. For a short period during World War II when metal was in short supply, a few pieces were manufactured with banding and handles of wood. Around 1955 items were produced with non-detachable (without a screw driver) banding and glass handles. The Flameware logo on some of the oldest pieces was stamped green ink.

The oldest double boilers and second generation saucepans had a "rounded" or "curved" bottom. More recent models have straight sides. Lids were always clear. The knobs on lids evolved from a thin flange to a round knob.

Pyrex Flameware Original Set #265 Pyrex Flameware Original set of cookware. New in box. Inculdes 7" skillet #817, 1 quart (32 ounce)saucepan #832, 1-1/2 quart (48 ounce) saucepan #833, and stainless steel "button-less" handle. All pieces appear unused. Even the packing material is in the box along with 2 paper labels. However, I think the heavy paper packing separating the pieces over the years has transferred color to the #832 saucepan. I've tried to show in the photos the small spots. I did not try too hard to get them off for fear of scratching. The box is intact although the glue lost its adhesion long ago. Circa about 1938. The "button-less" handle was the second generation. The first generration had a glass knob in the hole and the third generatrion had the all glass handle.

Pyrex Flameware Original Set - New in Bow Pyrex Flameware - Original set of cookware, new in box, 7" skillet #817, 1 qt saucepan #832, 1-1/2 qt saucepan #833, 3rd generation glass handle. All of the packing material - cardboard inserts are here. All three of the care & handling inserts are here. The cardboard box is all here, although it has been taped together. I have looked at all the pieces thoroughly and am convinced that none of it has ever been used. What markings are on the dishes appear to be the standard straw marks and NOT scratching either from utensil or stove top use. A truly wonderful find for the discriminating collector.
