P-155
Lefton Vintage Wall Plaque This Lefton Wall Plaque measures 8 1/4 inches by 6 inches. Is gold stamped and has the Lefton red paper sticker "Lefton Trade Mark Exclusives Japan", gold number 4927.

The Lefton plaque is handpainted and you can see the beautiful brush strokes. What you will see and feel in the painting is a peaceful country side in Japan near grey mountains. A cottage with a red roof at the end of a dirt road, blue sky, green grass. There are trees for shade and summer flowers under the trees.

This plaque can be put on the wall like a painting.

Best guess is 1953-1985.

P-120
Desert Sands Vase This piece measures approximately 5 inches up and down, around 10 1/2 inches. The colors that are swirling around the vase is green, brown, blue, dark brown. It is my best guess as this piece comes from Nevada. There is no markings or paper label. "As early as the 1850s, the Evans family living in the Ozark Mountains of Missouri produced domestic clay products. Their small pot shop was passed on from one generation to the next. In the 1920's it was moved to North Las Vegas, Nevada where the name Desert Sands was adapted. Succeding generations of the family continued to relocate taking the business with them. From 1937 to 1962 it operated in Boulder City, Nevada then it was moved to Barstow, California where it remained until it closed in the late 1970s." Desert Sands pottery is similar to Mission Ware by Niloak. Various mineral oxides were blended to mimic the naturally occuring sand formations of the American West. A high gloss glaze was applied to add intensity to the colorful striations that characterize the ware. Not all examples are marked, making it sometimes difficult to attribute. Marked items carry a ink stamp with Desert Sands designation. Paper labels were also used." Quotations taken from Schroeder's Antiques Price Guide 2006.
