Chatham Pottery Stoneware Bouquet Mug
Chatham Pottery Stoneware Bouquet Mug. Chatham Pottery was founded in 1941 by Frank and Margie Goss in Chatham, New Jersey. Pieces made in the 1940's and 1950's were marketed as Goss Stoneware or Contemporary Ceramics, pieces where signed either with a potters mark or where unsigned and had a paper label. In 1964 the company was incorporated under the name of Chatham Potters, Inc. In 1967 the plant manager Costas Kalogirou, bought the company. In 1976 they relocated to Oswego, Kansas, but kept a sales office in Chatham as well as at the factory site in Oswego. In Kansas the company used clays from Cherokee County and local natural gas to fire the kilns. The CP mark was registered in 1966, the company closed in 1984 as they were unable to compete with pottery imports that were sold at lower costs from foreign countries. This pattern was made from 1966 to 1981, this mug is 5 3/4 inches tall, in excellent condition and signed Chatham Pottery U.S.A. 66.
